Elizabeth Emery Beattie

BA (hons) Fine Art. PGCE. MA. PhD (Art History)

Thank you for visiting my online gallery.

I am a painter, art historian and lecturer in drawing, painting and calligraphy. I have extensive teaching experience at all levels and I currently work with adult recreational groups as an independent tutor, based in Worcester. Drawing in all its forms is a passion for me and I work in a variety of media including graphite, ink, acrylics, pastels, watercolour, oils and calligraphic media.

I was born in Northern Ireland and my Emery family background there in printing has influenced my interest in calligraphy while the landscape of Ireland continues to inspire my painting. My training in fine art at Cheltenham College of Art (BA Hons) was followed by a postgraduate Art education course at the University of Wales in Cardiff, leading to a long and fulfilling teaching career, which has run parallel to my exhibiting experience since 1982.

I have participated in many solo and group exhibitions and my work has appeared in both television and video art educational productions. I have enjoyed commissioned work and design experiences for stained glass, calligraphic and print projects and the opportunity to teach in so many different venues, including the RSC Production workshop and the National Exhibition Centre.

I was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in History of Art in 2004 (UCE Birmingham) after over a decade of part-time study and travel, with Renaissance Marian iconography as my area of research. Other areas of research interest continue and include French and Spanish painting and contemporary architecture and interior design.
